Abstract

The Yangtze River is a world famous golden channel and has an important position in economy. It is also important in people' living and development of western China as well. In the Yangtze River basin, the problem that mostly affects ecological environment is soil and water loss. By analyzing its historical evolution, status, characteristics and formative causes, some countermeasures and principle about soil and water conservation and sustainable development are advanced.
