Inhibitory effects of allicin on gastric cancer SGC-7901, BGC-823 cells

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To study the effect of allicin on human gastric cells SGC-7901 and BGC-823. METHODS:The inhibition rates of proliferation and the IC 50 of 72 hours of cells by were evaluated MTT assay, and the change of cell cycle using the flow cytometry. RESULTS: Alicin inhibited cell growth of SGC-7901 and BGC-823, IC 50 of 72 hours were 20 and 30 μg/mL. These cells were treated by allicin at the concentrations of 20 and 30 μg/mL for 24 hours, compared with the control group, the percentage of G 0/G 1 phase of the cells decreased and that of G 2/M cells increased significantly in the allicin treated group, P0.01. It showed that allicin caused arrest of grastric cancer cells in G 2/M phase. CONCLUSION: Allicin has inhibitory effection on gastric cells SGC-7901 and BGC-823 and causeds arrest of gastric cancer cells in G 2/M phase.
