Investigation on the current status of chronic filariasis in Jiangsu Province

Abstract

Objective To understand the current status of chronic filariasis in Jiangsu Province, so as to provide basis of making practical control and treatment measures. Methods People over 15-year old were checked up on clinic symptoms, signs and laboratory signals in chronic filariasis in 71 old endemic counties, by stratified-cluster and clue sampling. The data were analyzed statistically. Results The morbidity of chronic filariasis was 0.15% evaluated by stratified-cluster sampling, and 65 298 chronic cases were calculated in Jiangsu Province. 9 793 cases were found by clue sampling, of which the age ranged in 17-92, over 60 to be 65.39%. The course of diseases was in 1-64 years, and over 10 years to be 91.09 %. The type of disease with leg-lymphatic liquid was 69.35%. The patients calculated in 34 middle-endemic counties were up to 86.64% of all cases in Jiangsu Province. Conclusion The application of combination with stratified-cluster and clue sampling was practical on investigation of chronic filariasis at province-level. The morbidity of chronic filariasis maintain high in Jiangsu Province. We should launch treatment and care for them energetically.
