Abstract

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of pneumoperitoneography with spiral CT examination for inguinal hernia. Methods Two patients with indirect inguinal hernia and one patient with sliding hernia of urinary bladder were performed pneumoperitoneography with spiral CT examination. The imaging characteristics were analyzed. Results Oval hernial sac filling air and characteristics of hernial sac neck were clearly demonstrated in two patients with inguinal hernia.Partial urinary bladder protruded into hernial sac without filling air was shown in the patient with sliding hernia of urinary bladder. The imaging appearances were coincident with the operation results. Conclusions Pneumoperitoneography with CT examination is helpful to diagnose inguinal hernia without hernial content filling hernia sac.Compared with traditional fluid herniography, pneumoperitoneography has the advantage of good sensitivity and high imaging quality.Pneumoperitoneography is helpful to type hernia and diagnose early hernia and insidious hernia in patients without obvious physical signs.
