Abstract
The bending moments along the model pile and the acceleration of the mass at the top of the model pile were obtained at the onset of liquefaction of sand with different relative densities by shake table test.Based on the test results,it is proposed that the static p-y (p is the soil-pile interaction resistance, and y is the rela- tive displacement between the pile shaft and soil)curves of the pile should be scaled to determine the lateral bearing behavior of the pile in liquefied sand. And the bending moments of the model pile at the onset of lique- faction were further calculated using the model of the beam on nonlinear Winkler foundation. The calculated re- suits of the bending moments of the model pile are consistent with the test results when the relative density of the sand is between 20%—40% and the static p-y curves scaled as 0.1 are used as the p-y curves for liquefied sand.
