Abstract
The synthesis of Benzoic acid from toluene by KMnO4 in the presence of phase transfer catalyst(TEBA) was reported. The effects of TEBA amount,KM nO4 am aunt, reaction temperature and time on the yield of benzoic acid are investigated. The results showed that the optimal reaction conditions were as follows:the molar ratio of potassium permanganate to toluene was 2.5:1,The molar ratio of TEBA to toluene 1:10.The reaction at 90℃ for 2 h.the yield of benzoic acid was 72.1%.
