A Study on the Status of Chinese Tourism Research and the Building of the System of Tourism Discipline

With rich connotations,the polysemous word Tourism carries different meaning in different contexts.The phrase Tourism Studies is a phrase presenting only in course books like an introduction to Tourism Science.However from more than 80 course book of this kind published in China,the author found that there has been no agreement neither on the connotation and denotations of tourism science nor on its nature,classification and attribution as well.Scholars abroad haven't reached consensus about it either.This paper insists that the development and tourism studies and discipline building should start from studying the most basic,central and essential concepts.
