Abstract
Clay mineral compositions and physicochemical properties of soils in the mine regions of Lawu and Zhaxikang,Tibet were studied. The results indicated that the soils collected from Lawu are acidic while those from Zhaxikang were alkaline. Both the content of organic matter and the value of CEC in the soils from Lawu were much higher than those in the soils from Zhaxikang.Hydromica,kaolinite,vermiculite,chlorite,1.4 nm intergraded mineral and mixed-layer mineral could be found from both soils. But the soils from Lawu were predominated with hydromica and kaolinite while those from Zhaxikang were only dominated by hydromica. The iron oxides in both soils were mainly crystalline forms, with little part of amorphous species.
