Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between gastric liquid emptying and gastric accommodation in patients with functional dyspepsia(FD). Methods Gastric accommodation was applied by barostat in 30 FD patients and 15 healthy controls. Gastric liquid emptying was measured by ultrasonography. Results The volume of gastric accommodation in FD patients was clearly lower than that in healthy controls(954.3±140.8 ml vs 1062.6±122.9 ml,P0 05). 6.7%(14/30) FD patients had impaired gastric accommodation. The average time of 50% gastric liquid emptying was longer than that in healthy controls(31.1±8.9 min vs 23.7±4 6 min,P0.01). The relevance analysis of the volume of gastric accommodation and the average time of 50% gastric liquid emptying showed that the lower the volume of gastric accommodation, the longer the delay of gastric liquid emptying(r=-0.351,P0.05).Conclusions The patients with FD have not only impaired gastric accommodation, but also delayed gastric liquid emptying. They are related with each other.
