Abstract

Objective To explore the influence of irbesartan on oxidative stress in maintenance hemodialysis(MHD) patients.Method A total of 65 cases of MHD patients were randomly divided into 2 groups:treatment group and control group.Besides the ordinary treatment to decrease blood pressure, the patients of treatment group were given irbesartan 150~300mg per day for two months.Fasting peripheral blood was collected before hemodialysis in both groups.Serum levels of oxidative product malondialdehyde(MDA) and anti-oxidative product superoxide dismutase(SOD) were measured before and after the experiment. Results In treatment group serum MDA decreased and serum SOD increased after treatment comparing with those before treatment(P0.05).Serum MDA decreased and serum SOD increased after treatment comparing with those in control group(P0.05 or P0.01).Conclusions Irbesartan can improve anti-oxidative level and decrease the level of oxidative stress in MHD patients.
