Nursing for the Resection of Pituitary Tumor through Endoscopic Transnasal Transsphenoidal Approach

Objective To assess the nursing effect of the endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal approach for the treatment of pituitary tumor. Methods 42 cases with pituitary tumor were treated by the endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal surgery from January 2007 to November 2010 in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The perioperative nursing approach and prognosis of all cases were analyzed retrospectively. Results All the cases survived including 3 cases with cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea. The pituitary tumor symptoms vanished and no complications were found after the follow-up of 3 to 36 months. Conclusion Intensive perioperative nursing of the endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal approach for the treatment of pituitary tumor is one of the key factors for successful surgery and early recovery.
