On the Non-historical Feature of Xu Fu-guan's Studying Confucius' Artistic Spirit from Music

Chinese Artistic Spirit written by Xu Fu-guan is one of the representative works of New Confucian abroad.When Xu studied the status of music in ancient China and the relationship between Confucius and Confucian and music,he did not follow strictly with the method of historical science.Xu Fu-guan magnified the force of music in ancient times and did not consider fully about the implemental value of music in the thought of Confucius and Confucian and often regarded the music of that time as a pure and absolute artistic form.He was usually ambivalent when he integrated the moral implemental role and the artistic role property of the ancient music.In order to reconstruct the new standard system of Chinese thought and authoritative system of value and belief,he rearranged the historical facts and interpreted them subjectively.
