Abstract

Objective To explore the localization of Ngb mRNA in adult rat retina. Methods In the present study, the localization of Ngb mRNA in retina of the adult rat was examined by in situ hybridization histochemistry using digoxigenin-labelled cRNA probes. Results Strong hybridization signals were observed in the outer and inner nuclear layer, and in the ganglion cell layer of the neuronar retina. Conclusion The expression of neuroglobin mRNA was presented at a high level in the rat retina, which suggested that neuroglobin mRNA might play an importent role in oxygen homeostasis of retina.
