Abstract
Diethyl malonate was synthesized from malonic acid and ethanol over phosphotungstic acid supported on activated carbon. The influential factors(dosage of catalyst,acid-to-alcohol molar ratio, reaction time) were investigated.Experimental results indicated that the optimum condition was as follows: n(malonic acid) ∶n(ethanol) ∶n(phosphotungstic acid)=1∶3∶0.007,dosage of water-carrying agent =15 mL,reaction time 90 min.Diethyl malonate yield of up to 96.25% was obtained.
