CHINA'S ACCESS TO WTO AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF YANGTZE RIVER BASIN

China's access to WTO has deep impacts on both China's economy and the sustainable development of Yangtze River Basin. Its negative aspects are :①The industries of steel, automobile, chemical and agriculture will be greatly challenged by intense international competition; ②The ecological environment will suffer great pressure with the opening, development, investment and construction in new stage. Its positive aspects are : ①China's access to WTO speeds up the transformation of government function and leads to, which sets a new phase for the protection of the Yangtze River ; ②It strengthens the Green Barrier , which will benefit the ecological environment as an exterior power; ③It moves China forward into a new era of great opening, which will make the Yangtze River focus of the world on both development and protection ; ④China's access to WTO and the success of Olympic games application make it possible to realize the strategy of maneuvering water earlier than planned. China and the whole world will step into an era of water-valued allocation of resources and layout of economy, which will make the opening, development and protection of the Yangtze River Basin more important than before.
