Abstract

Objective: To investigate the expression of hypoxia-inducible factoi-1α( HIF-1α) in ischemic toIerance induced by focal ischemic preconditioning in rals. Methods:32 rats were divided into 3 groups in which control group received sham sur-gery (SS) only, and the other two groups received 2h middle cerebral artery occlusion ( MCAO) followed by 22h reperfusion with 10min ischemic preconditoning or SS 3d before. Infarct volume and expression of HIF-1α were evalualed in each group Results: Compared with the SS group, there was a smaller infarct volume and stronger HTF-1α immunoreactivity in PC group. Conclusions: 10min MCAO was strong enough to induce ischmic tolerance and increase HIF-1α expression. Up-regulation of HIF-1α might be a key event in [he molecular mechanism of focal cerebral ischemic tolerance.
