Abstract

A groundwater flow model of Kang-Ping Development Zone(KPDZ) is established based on the regional and local geological and hydro-geological conditions and using Visual Modflow,a commercial groundwater flow numerical simulatoris used to prevent possible over-extraction of the groundwater and maintain sustainability of the local groundwater supply. The model is calibrated by matching the model-simulating water heads to the measured historical water heads. The calibrated model is used to predict the groundwater flow field evolution(i.e.water head drawdown) under pumping conditions.Groundwater flow field evolutions in the coming 15 years are predicted according to various schemes.Sensitivity analyses are also made by using the orthogonal trial method used in the simulation: permeability, storage coefficient, infiltration rate, and evapotranspiration(vertical discharge) rate.
