Data difference between automatic weather station and manual observation station in Dalian,Liaoning province

Abstract

Based on the meteorological data including temperature,pressure,precipitation,relative humidity,soil surface temperature and wind speed/direction from automatic weather station(AWS) and manual observation station(MOS) in Dalian from 2005 to 2006,the difference,coarse difference,consistency and corresponding rate of wind direction were compared.The results show that there are small differences on temperature,pressure,precipitation and soil surface temperature between AWS and MOS.Thus,their accuracy can satisfy the needs of routine operation.There are obvious differences on relative humidity,wind speeds of 10 minutes and 2 minutes,and wind direction corresponding rate between AWS and MOS,so it is not suitable for routine operation.The main reasons result from the differences of data collection methods,sensor environment,instrument principles,observation samples,observation time and human factors.
