Comparison of operative results of arthroscopy versus conventional open surgery in treating the gluteal muscle contracture

[Objective]To compare the clinical results of arthroscopy versus conventional open surgery in treating gluteal muscle contracture.[Methods]With the methods of retrospective study of the clinical statistics,116 patients with gluteal muscle contracture were randomly divided into two groups,one had 56 patients as the group of observation with arthroscopy and the other had 60 patients as the controlled group with conventional open surgery.The results were observed by the method of Cai Bin[1],and also by 8 factors,including the length of incision,operation time,the blood loss,anodyne application,the time out of bed,postoperative hospital stay time,the complication and the recurrence.[Results]Differences were not statistically significant for curative effect,operation time,the complication and the recurrence.But there was significant difference in statistics about other 5 factors between the two groups.[Conclusion]The curative effect were nearly same with the two methods.But compared with conventional open surgery,arthroscopy can reduce trauma to the tissue,length of incision,the blood loss in operation,anodyne application,the time out of bed after operation,and the post-operative hospital stay time and the time of return to previous sport,and shows more stability to the spinal vertebrae.Arthroscopy is an ideal surgical operating method in treating gluteal muscle contracture.
