Abstract

A 2-D average water depth numerical model for unsteady tidal flow was established using the finite difference method on double time layer meshes. The 2-D shallow water equations were solved by upwind scheme and chase technique. The 2-D model was adopted to calculate the tidal current of Qinzhou Bay.The results, compared with the simultaneously measured value of the bank tide level and the tide at sea, show that the practical measured values coincide very well with the calculations at the corresponding time. The calculated results actually report the change of the tide level and the movement of the tide of Qinzhou Bay.The model was applied to simulate tidal circulation of the engineering project of enclosing beach in Qinzhou Bay.The overall performance of the model indicates that construction of the project will not affect the hydrodynamics condition of sea area evidently, and will only have a little influence on the place near the quay.
