Analysis of Serum Lipid Levels in Patients with Cancer

Abstract

To investigate the changes of serum lipids in patients with different cancers,preoperative serum lipid concentrations were examined in 163 patients who have histologically confirmed clinically localized cancer and 45 healthy controls by using Hitachi automatic biochemistry analyzer.The serum levels of the total cholesterol(CH),high-density lipoprotein(HDL)-C,low-density lipoprotein(LDL)-C,triglycerides(TG),apolipoprotein A1(ApoA1),apolipoprotein B(ApoB) and lipoprotein(Lp(a)) were measured.The results showed that the serum levels of ApoA1 and(HDL)-C in patients with gastrointestinal cancer were significantly lower than that of controls(P0.01),but the Lp(a) was higher than controls(P0.01).The serum ApoA1 in lung cancer was significantly lower than that of controls(P0.01),and serum Lp(a) was higher than that of controls(P0.05).The serum Lp(a) in gynecologic cancer was significantly lower than that of controls(P0.05).The results indicate that the detection of serum lipid levels might be very useful in the diagnosis and prognosis of cancer.
