Progress of the theoretical and practical research on smart growth

The smart growth of cities emphasizes on the sustainable development of economy,society and environment,which has become the urban development programme of action in the United States. This article systematically summarizes the theoretical model of smart growth,practical effect of smart growth in the field of land use change,community revitalization,housing preferences,farmland preservation,and infrastructure construction in the United States,and the development process of smart growth in China. We hope that the concept of smart growth will provide reference for the sustainable development of cities in China.
