Transmission of Narrative Perspective and Conveyance of Author's Intention in Fiction Translation

The choice and change of the narrative perspective imply the specific intention of the author.Since the 20th century,narrative perspective has aroused great interests.While in the translation research field,little attention is paid to the transmission of narrative perspective.The rich theories from cognitive stylistics can help us distinguish the shift of narrative perspective in the original and translated works with minor syntactic or lexical marker and explore the construction of the textual world by the author and the translator.This article studies the relationship between transmission of narrative perspective and conveyance of author's intention in two aspects with the help of cognitive stylistics,based on the examples from five Chinese renditions of the Grapes of Wrath.The writers of this article hold that the shift of narrative perspective impedes the smooth conveyance of author's intention when we do fictional translation.This is because the shift of narrative perspective guides the direction of meaning construction and consequently casts influence on the conveyance of author's intention.The accurate recognition of the original narrative perspective can help the translators to make up the original textual world.The closer it is to the narrative perspective of the original works,the more accurately the translated works can convey the intention of the author.
