Simulation of Sheet Forming Based on Solid Finite Elements

Abstract

Generally,it is based on membrane elements to simulate the deep drawing process of sheet with finite element method(FEM),the stress-strain variation in thickness is ignored using membrane elements and it is not appropriate to employ the membrane elements for conditions of bending deformation of sheets.In this paper,the deep drawing process of sheet is simulated based on solid elements of LS-DYNA finite element software,the stress-strain fields of sheet are obtained from the simulation and the stress and strain of each parts have been analyzed,it is found that the circumferential stress-strain fields at die radius obviously vary along sheet's thickness.It is a good guidance for the deep-drawing process of cylindrical cups.
