In the Northern Song Dynasty especially the reign of Emperor Renzong,the tactical deployment of troops and system of battle formations were attached so great importance that either officials or the people energetically engaged themselves in the study even without any perceptible effect in battlefields.The paper focuses on their application as well as the formulation,attempting to penetrate into the reason why the fighting capacity can't be enhanced with such a profound research concerned in the middle of the Song Dynasty.
