Value of detection of procalcitonin and C-reactive protein in diagnosis of infectious pneumonia in neonates

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore clinical value of procalcitonin-C reactive protein-white blood cell joint test in the neonates with infectious pneumonia so as to provide evidence for early diagnosis and treatment of the infectious pneumonia.METHODS A total of 236 cases of neonates with infectious pneumonia,who were treated in the hospital,were selected as the research group and 236 healthy newborn babies as the control group,the changes of PCT,CRP and WBC were compared between the two groups of neonates.RESULTS The sensitivity of the joint test to the research group,the bacterial infection group,the mixed infections group,and the other groups were 80.5%,95.6%,85.6%,and 10.0%,respectively;the specificity were 72.0%,88.6%,70.3%,and 60.0%,respectively;the sensitivity of the joint test was 80.5%,the specificity 72.0%;the levels of PCT and CRP were significantly elevated in the bacterial infection group and the mixed infections group(P0.05),showing a significant difference between before and after the treatment(P0.05);the level of WBC was elevated only in the bacterial infection group(P0.05),changing less significantly than the PCT and CRP,but with a significant difference between before and after the treatment(P0.05);no significant change of the three indicators were observed in other infection group.CONCLUSION PCT is more sensitive and reliable than CRP and WBC in the early diagnosis of infectious pneumonia in the newborns,and the procalcitonin-C reactive protein-white blood cell joint test can help differentiate between the bacterial pneumonia and the mixed pneumonia and monitor the efficacy,which is a reasonable indicator joint pattern of the serology test for the neonates with pneumonia.
