Abstract

Objective To discuss the effect of the quality of sputum specimens on detection of acid-fast bacilli(AFB).Methods By direct smear and Ziehl-neelsen acid-fast staining,8 860 sputum specimens from The Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Shache County during the period of 2005 to 2006 were analyzed. Results Out of the 8 860 samples, there were 1 881 of positive AFB with the positive rate of 21.23%.Conclusions The detection rate relates to the quality of sputum specimens, characters, time.Attention must be paid to the quality of collecting sputum and the morning sputum collection.
