"Rootless" Music Education in China

Since the beginning of the 20th century,the music education has continued for over 100 years in China.In Chinese modern educational system,music is one of three minor courses in schools.This departs from the ancient Chinese education tradition which made music the basis of education for thousands of years.Chinese traditional music hardly has any position in the music education since European music plays the major role,and traditional music heritage is neglected in the education.Recently,some experts have argued that music skills training are not necessary,so skills training has been replaced by music enjoyment,which departs from the basic principles of music and music education.These three things have made Chinese music education become rootless and must be changed.
