Modernity of aesthetics: A Historical Description

Abstract

Most of discussions on connotations of modernity of aesthetics have started from a holistic cultural viewpoint, while the transition and its essence of aesthetics itself from tradition to modern ones are neglected. With a systematic description of the main stream of aesthetics from ancient Greece, through the Middle Ages, to the Enlightenment, one can find that the modernity of aesthetics appeared in the age of Enlightenment as a consequence that the aesthetics of didacticism substituted for transcendent aesthetics.
