Abstract

In order to study the shear capacity of reinforced high-strength lightweight aggregate concrete(HLWAC) beams,an experiment was conducted through ten HLWAC beams and one high-strength normal concrete beam with and without web bars, which subjected to concentrated loads. The effects of concrete strength, stirrup ratio and shear span ratio on shear strength were researched. Some equations were researched in order to find whether they were appropriated to the HLWAC beams. The test result indicat that the HLWAC beams have the same failure style with high-strength normal concrete beam. The extent of the increase on the ultimate shear strength of beams is small with the increase of concrete strength.Increasing stirrup ratio can increase the ultimate shear strength, but little affects the diagonal crack and critical diagonal crack appearing.According to the analysis of test data, the equation elicited by old Code JGJ12-99 is applicable, not only to the normal strength lightweight concrete but also to the HLWAC beams.
