Diagnostic Value of Spiral CT,Electronic Bronchoscopy and Sputum Cytology for Central Pulmonary Carcinoma

ObjectiveTo evaluate the diagnostic value of central pulmonary carcinoma with spiral CT,Electronic bronchoscopy and sputum cytology.MethodsWe have collected and reviewed total 120 cases of central pulmonary carcinoma that confirmed by pathology from January 2004 to December 2008 in the departments of respiration and department of medical oncology of the second people's hospital of Baoji city.All of the cases had been checked by spiral CT,electronic bronchoscopy and sputum cytology.In 54 of the 120 cases the sputum cytology examinations had been done during the pre-or post-bronchoscopy,the results of each examination were analyzed comparatively.ResultsThe diagnostic rate of central pulmonary carcinoma by sputum cytology,spiral CT and Electronic bronchoscopy was 33.3%,83.3%and 88.3%respectively.The diagnostic rate of central pulmonary carcinoma by sputum cytology after Electronic bronchoscopy was 51.9%.The diagnostic rate of central pulmonary carcinoma by sputum cytology combined with spiral CT and Electronic bronchoscopy was up to 100%.In histology,squamous cell and small cell undifferentiated carcinoma were more common,in 56.7%and 25.0%respectively.ConclusionSpiral CT combined with electronic bronchoscopy and sputum cytology is benefit to the diagnosis of central pulmonary carcinoma.
