Abstract
Tensile strength and elongation of austempered ductile iron (ADI) were considerably reduced, resulting in remarkable water embrittlement under water adhesion condition. The water embrittlement was attributed to the hydrogen embrittlement induced by decomposition of water during plastic deformation.Soldering on ADI surface decreased the ADI tensile strength and elongation, and solder coating could not prevent from water embrittlement.Polyethylene coating reduced the degree of ADI water embrittlement, but nylon or epoxy coatings had no effect on ADI water embrittlement prevention.
