Abstract

Objective: To explore the effect of functional electrical stimulation(FES) on lower extremity motor function in children with spastic cerebral palsy. Methods: 141 cases of children with spastic cerebral palsy who treated in department of Pediatrics rehabilitation center from July 2012 to June 2014 were randomly divided into observation group(73cases) and control group(68cases). The control group was recieved routine comprehensive rehabilitation treatment. The observation group was given FES treatment on the basis of control group. The MAS score, range of motion(ROM)of ankle and the gross motor function measure(GMFM)were evaluated of both groups before and after treatment. Results: By 12 weeks after treatment, two groups of ROM score and GMFM score were significantly higher than that before treatment(P0.05), and the observation group increased more significantly(P0.05); the two group of MAS scores were significantly lower than that before treatment(P0.05), and the observation group decreased more obviously(P0.05). Conclusion: FES combined with exercise training can significantly relieve lower extremity muscle spasm extent, improve ankle range of motion and function, promote the lower limb motor function recovery, it is worth the clinical promotion.
