Abstract
This work is done to provide a basis to determine whether the heat insulating measure should be taken at the Shentongzui Reservoir. With consideration of the water temperature variation in the reservoir, calculation models for freezing time of the water body and outflow temperature of the reservoir are developed based on the shapes of ice scraps and ice covers, and the freezing time and outflow temperature are calculated. The results show that the freezing time depends on the water level and inflow temperature of the reservoir, and the water level has greater influences, and that, if an effective ice cover is formed, it is unnecessary to take any heat insulating measures.
