Abstract
Objective: To study levels of C-reactive protein(CRP) and endothelin-1(ET-1) in the patients with ischemic stroke. Methods: Sixty-eight patients with a first-ever ischemic stroke were prospectively studied.Plasma levels of CRP and ET-1 were measured at admission,at the 7th day in hospital and before discharge. All patients were scored by NIHSS based on deficit in their clinical neuro-logical function.Thirty healthy cases were chosen as control group. Results: ① In the patients with ischemic stroke, the content of CRP was 6.83±1.51 mg/L at admission,4.89±1.33 mg/L at the 7th day,and 4.12±1.24 mg/L before discharge, which is significantly differ-ent from that in control group(2.82±0.66 mg/L) respectively(p0.05);the content of ET-1 was 133.69±38.93 ng/L at admission,125.23±32.45 ng/L at the 7th day,and 108.32±31.51 ng/L before discharge, also significantly different from that in control group(45.67±10.02 ng/L) respectively(p0.01);② With the development of the disease,CRP content was in a gradual decline, and in a nega-tive correlation with the course of disease, but a positive correlation with neurological deficit scores;ET-1 content also decreased gradu-ally,but remained at a relatively high level, with no significant correlation with the progress of disease and neurological deficit scores. Conclusions: There were dynamic changes in the levels of CRP and ET-1 in patients with ischemic stroke. With improvement of disease, the content of CRP decreased obviously, but the content of ET-1remained at a relatively high level.
