CT application in the staging system of inverted papilloma in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses

OBJECTIVE To discuss and evaluate the value of CT in the staging sy stem of inverted papilloma in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. METHODS C T information and operation records of 33 cases with inverted papilloma in the n asal cavity and paranasal sinuses were analysed retrospectively. RESULTS Accord ing to the staging system developed by John H. Krouse in 2000, 33 cases were cat egorized into four stages based on operation and on CT respectively. The two res ults of staging were compared. The stages on CT and on operation matched and tha t unmatched were: stage T1 1 and 0, stageT2 22 and 2,stage T3 3 and 3,stage T 4 2 and 0, total was 28 and 5 . CONCLUSION Although there is no special CT cha racteristics in patients with inverted papilloma in the nasal cavity and paranas al sinuses,CT can show the exact extent of the lesion and is indispensable to th e staging of inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity and the paranasal sinuses.
