GC-MS Analysis and Identification of 2-(2-Phenylethyl)chromone Derivatives of Agarwood ‘Qi-Nan'

Abstract

The agarwood ‘Qi-nan' was extracted with ether at room temperature. The chemical constituents and relative contents of the ether extract were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass(GC-MS) spectrometry and eleven compounds were identified by GC-MS analysis. The same ether extract was isolated and purified by column chromatography to get compounds 1~6,which were identified as 2-(2-Phenylethyl) chromone derivatives by NMR spectra. Five relatively high yield components unidentified in GC-MS analysis were identified as 2-(2-Phenylethyl)chromone derivatives 2~6 by comparison of their MS spectra. The relative content of 2-(2-Phenylethyl) chromone derivatives of the ether extract is 63.62%,which indicate that agarwood Qi-nan is rich in 2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone derivatives. The MS fragmentation pattern of 2-(2-Phenylethyl) chromone derivatives was discussed,which will be helpful for the GC-MS analysis and structure elucidation of the 2-(2-Phenylethyl) chromones in agarwood,so that provided scientific bases for sound and reasonable evaluation of the quality of agarwood.
