Abstract

Objective To investigate effects of extract of Ginkgo biloba on expressions of CREB and pCREB in hippocampus of aging rats. Methods Male wistar rats were divided into three groups:young control group, old control group and EGb group.Rats in EGb group were treated with intragastric administration of EGb,while rats of the other two groups were treated with distilled water. The spatial learning and memory were evaluated by Morris water maze, and expressions of CREB and pCREB were detected by Western blot. Results Compared to young control group, the swimming time and times through platform in the target quardrant in old control group were reduced(P0.05).Times passing through the platform and the time exploring the target quadrant were more and longer in EGb group than those of old control group(P0.05).Compared with rats in young control group, relative contents of CREB and p-CREB in hippocampus were decreased in old control group(P0.05).Relative contents of CREB and p-CREB were higher in EGb group than those in old control group(P0.05).Conclusion EGb could ameliorate spatial learning and memory by increasing expressions of CREB and p-CREB in hippocampus of aging rats.
