Abstract

Three comparative sample plots were established at intersection of Phyllostachys heterocycla var.pubescens forest and evergreen broad-leaved forest to observe the influence of a fast spread of bamboo on bird diversity in Tianmu Mountain National Nature Reserve,Zhejiang province.Statistics collected from these plots showed that bird species in bamboo forest was one-seventh of that in evergreen broadleaved one,and number of birds was one-sixth of that in evergreen broadleaved one.The difference might be a result of changes in food chain and spatial pattern of the forest.The results showed that a continuing spread of bamboo forest could have negative impact on bird diversity of the reserve.Propositions were offered to control the spreading of bamboo such as removing bamboos from the core of the Nature Reserve and thinning bamboos in experimental areas for maintaining ecological security of Tianmu Mountain.
