Abstract
To find effective anti-toxoplasmosis drugs, commonly used six drugs were selected to evaluate their efficacy against acute murine toxoplasmosis.Kunming male mice were inoculated intraperitoneally with 1×104 tachyzoites of Changning(CN) strain of Toxoplasma gondii.Four hours later, these mice were given the following drugs by gavage or drinking water: Azithromycin(at the dose of 150,120,90 mg/(kg·d)),Tiamulin(at the dose of 100 mg/(kg·d)),Clarithromycin(at the dose of 15 mg/(kg·d)),Sulfachloropyrazine sodium(at the dose of 150,120,90 mg/(kg·d)),Metronidazole(at the dose of 150 mg/(kg·d)) and Trimethoprim(at the dose of 10 mg/(kg·d)).Mice were treated for 5-6 days. The experiment ended at 10 days after inoculation. Results showed that the average survival time of mice treated with Azithromycin or Sulfachloropyrazine sodium was significantly longer than that of non-treated group(P0.05),but the difference was not significant between the groups treated with Tiamulin,Clarithromycin,Metronidazole or Trimethoprim and non-treated group(P0.05).In comparison with non-treated group, the number of tachyzoites counted by microscopic examination of the peritoneal fluid reduced by 70% or more at 4-7 day in the group treated with azithromycin and reduced over 99% in group with Sulfachloropyrazine sodium. These results indicated that Sulfachloropyrazine sodium was the most effective drug against Toxoplasma gondii. The recommended dose and treatment period need to be addressed in further study.
