Abstract
Objective To investigate the roles of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) autocrine loop in pathogenesis of bladder cancer. Methods Expressions of bFGF and its receptor FGFR 1 and phosphotyrosine protein (P Tyr) were examined by immunohistochemistry methods in 72 cases with bladder and 16 specimens of normal bladder tissue. Results Higher expressions of bFGF, FGFR 1 and P Tyr were found in bladder than those in normal tissues, respectively. Expressions of bFGF and FGFR 1 were assocition with tumor grade, stage and recurrence. There were significantly relating expressions among bFGF, FGFR 1 and P Tyr in bladder cancer. Conclusion Abnormally elevated activity of bFGF autocrine loop may play an important role in the development and progression of bladder cancer. bFGF and FGFR 1 may be valueful predictors for biological behavitor and prognosis of bladder cancer.
