Angioarchitecture and endovascular embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the angioarchitecture and the efficacy of the endovascular embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVM). Methods:The feeding arteries of cerebral AVM were superselectively injected and embolized with Seldinger and microcatheter techniques.Results:In superselective angiography, the angioarchitectures can be terminal supply,passage supply and mixed supply, associated aneurysm and venous pouch.The successful rate of embolism technique is 97.5%. The AVM disappeared and the patient recovered completely in 11 cases. Most of the AVM disappeared ,the size of AVM reduced larger than 80% in 4 cases. The size of AVM reduced by 50%~80% in 14 cases, and less than 50% in 9 cases. All patients were followed for 6 months to 5 years. The results was satisfactory.Conclusion:Superselective angiogram is instructive for the endovascular embolization of cerebral AVM and the therapy is an accurate, safe and effective method.
