Abstract
Synthesis of dimethyl fumarate was carried out via orthogonal test using maleic anhydride and methanol as starting materials in this paper. The factors that affected the yield of product such as the mole ratio of maleic anhydride to methanol, isomerization temperature, esterification time and the amount of catalysts were investigated. The optimized reaction conditions were obtained as follows: the mole ratio of maleic anhydride to methanol was 12 ∶ 1,isomerization temperature was 100℃,the reaction time was 6 hours, and the mole ratio of maleic anhydride to phosphoric acid was 8 ∶ 1.The final product was confirmed by the infrared spectrum and elemental analysis.
