Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the quantitative relations of the medial margin of superior facet to the pedicle center. Material and Methods: The distance from the medial margin of the superior articular process to the pedicle center was measured in 100 dry lumbar specimens. Results: In L 1~L 5,correspondingly, there are 36.7%, 27.2%, 25.6%, 7.3% and 2.3% of the medial margin of the superior pacet locate in spinal canal or on the medial cortex. The distances are as follows: L 1 2.3± 1.9mm ,L 2 2.9±1.7mm,L 3 3.5±1.8mm,L 4 3.7±1.5mm and L 5 5.4±1.7mm. Conclusions: The medial margin of the superior facet is not ideal landmark of screw entrance point because its location is inside the spinal canal or on the medial cortex of pedicle in part specimens. It is one of the reasons causing complications during secrew introduction.
