Abstract

The adsorption of ammonia nitrogen in waste water on natural bentonite and modified bentonite, collected from Inner Mongolia was discussed. Results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of modified bentonite was observed at pH 3.0~7.0 when the initial concentration of ammonia nitrogen was 300 mg/L.The ammonia nitrogen adsorption data on modified bentonite were well fitted by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm. The ammonia nitrogen adsorption dynamics can be best described by the pseudo first-order and second-order model, chemical and physical adsorption predominated its adsorption process.Modified bentonite can remove ammonia nitrogen in domestic farming waste water with the efficiency of 91.0%.
