Abstract
Objective To discuss the clinicopathological characteristics, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of primary adenosquamous carcinoma of the stomach. Methods Clinical and pathological characteristics of 11 patients with ASC treated by surgical resection were retrospectively analyzed. Results There were eight cases in stage Ⅲ and three cases in stage Ⅳ.The overall resectability was 100%,in which 63.6% had radical resection. The median survival time was 8 months, which was shorter than that of the gastric adenocarcinoma in the same stage. Conclusion The primary adenosquamous carcinoma of the stomach might arise from the pluripotent cells capable of differentiating into either squamous or glandular cells. The primary gastric adenosquamous carcinoma was seen only in the advanced stage.Surgical resection combined with other treatment modalities is preferred. The prognosis of ASC was less favorable than that of gastric adenocarcinoma.
