Abstract

The mechanical and tribological properties of PTFE composites filled with micron,nano-SiC and SiC fiber were tested. The effects of different size and content on the mechanical and tribological properties of PTFE composites were investigated. The tensile break surfaces were observed by a scanning electron microscope(SEM).The strengthen mechanism of the composites was investigated. The comparative study of PTFE composites filled with different sizes of SiC showed that the wear-resisting properties and hardness for composites were improved when different sizes of SiC were filled in.SiC fiber/PTFE composites had higher tensile strength and break elongation. Its integrated properties were the best. The micro-analysis of tensile fracture surface showed that it had a better bonding between SiC fiber and the PTFE matrix.Performance of PTFE composites was enhanced.
