Abstract

The content of fructose, glucose, sucrose and total sugar during watermelon fruit development were measured in this experiment to provide biological basis of quality breeding in watermelon. The contents of total sugar, fructose and glucose in young fruits were relatively low,the contents increased slowly during fruit development, and decreased during quick fruit enlargement, and then increased rapidly and reached the peak value at ripening stage. The sucrose content of young fruit was low.Sucrose accumulated slowly during fruit development, and reached peak value in nearly mature watermelon fruit. The total sugar, fructose and glucose content reached peak 33 days after pollination and sucrose reached peak at 30 days. All sugars started to decrease after full mature.
