Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship of Barrett's esophagus and reflux esophagitis with Helicobacter pylori. Methods One hundred and nine patients with Barrett's esophagus,125 patients with reflux esophagitis and 70 normal controls were obtained two pieces of living tissue from greater and lesser curvature of gastric antrum respectively to detect Helicobacter pylori infection by urease test and biopsy. Results The infective rate of Helicobacter pylori was 32.31% in Barrett's esophagus patients,33.78% in reflux esophagitis patients and 54.29% in controls. There was a statistic difference between the two former groups and control group(P0.05).Conclusion Helicobacter pylori may have a protective effect on Barrett's esophagus and reflux esophagitis.
