Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical effect of intermittent noninvasive positive pressure ventilation(NPPV)in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)with respiratory failure and its complications. Methods Forty-two cases were randomly divided into two groups.Group A was treated with routine method and intermittent NPPV,whereas the group B was treated with routine method and continual NPPV.The arterial blood gas analysis(pH,PaO_2 and PaCO_2)and complications were recorded in 24 h and 72 h respectively. Results There was no statistical difference in effective rate, value of pH,PaO_2 and PaCO_2,rate of failure, days of hospitalization between the both groups(P0.05).The incidence of complications in group A was significant lower compare to group B(P0.01).Conclusions Intermittent NPPV with a lower rate of complications has similar effect as continual NPPV for COPD patients with respiratory failure.
